Diabetic retinopathy (DR) could impact as many as 191 million people around the globe by 2030. Proper management & treatment is critical in preventing vision loss, yet as many as 50% of diabetics are not getting regular eye exams, or are diagnosed too late.
On May 19, 2016 the Alliance for Aging Research launched a new factsheet – The Silver Book: Diabetic Retinopathy. Speakers from the International Diabetes Federation and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness discussed the burden of the disease, as well as challenges & opportunities in global DR management.
