After three years, the rate of major adverse cardiac events in those patients who were treated with drug-eluting stents was half the rate of those patients who were treated with bare metal stents. The difference can be largely attributed to the significantly lower rate of re-narrowing of treated blockages in those with drug-eluting stents.
